About the Event

Brothers Wedge and Sammy Barthe are the fourth generation of their family to work the land of Richland Hill (established 1895) in East Feliciana Parish, Louisiana. With a total of 474 acres the brothers have developed a system that maximizes the natural resources at their disposal. In addition to managing 170 acres of planted pine and old growth mixed- forest, they graze five herds of 25 to 30 beef cattle over 250 acres of forage by implementing a management intensive grazing program. The balance of the total acreage is set aside for wildlife with no grazing or timber activity.

In 2009 Wedge and Sammy were recognized by the LFGC for integrating profitable innovative forage production techniques and were awarded the title of Master Forage Producers. Grasses, legumes, brassicas and small grains are the forages that are the backbones of the brothers’ beef cattle operation.
