This training is open to both producers and professionals. The goal is to learn how to rate and quantify the quality of grazing pastures and identify common grasses and weeds in our area. 1/2 day available for producers, April 3 12:00-3:30 in field. Includes both classroom and field work.

About the Event
This training is open to professionals producers. Taught by experts Mark Kennedy and John

, who developed the step method of pasture condition scoring. Additionally, we're offering producers the option to attend for half a day specifically for the identification portion for just $10.
By the end of this workshop, you should be able to identify southwest Louisiana's common grasses and weeds, fill out a pasture condition score sheet, and understand and complete the transects and pasture condition score process required when inventorying all pasturelands in Louisiana.
Day 1 (4/3/25):

9:15 Classroom Presentations and discussions on Pasture Condition Scoring and Using the Step Point Method

11:00 am Using the Step Point Worksheet (in the field) /Plant ID (Research Center)
12:00 pm Lunch
12:30 Plant-ID ONLY registration/check in.
12:45 pm Practice Pasture Condition Scoring in the field (Research Center) with some more Plant ID as needed
3:30 pm Adjourn
Day 2 (4/4/25):
8:30 am Sign in, Questions from the previous day
9:00 am Individual Travel to farm
9:30 am Practice Pasture Condition Scoring in the field, break into groups of 5, and work together
11:30 am Discuss results
12:00 pm Conclusion
